Is Debbie Han today!

Critics, philosophers, and theoreticians have stated that, during a recession, artists can return to fundamentals: branding, art market booms, and the constant cycle of the same artists being exhibited can finally come to a halt.  In the past three years we have seen a return to Pop art, photo realism, and Conceptual art that have proved successful, yet don’t bring anything new to the table ideologically.  Debbie Han not only captures the magnificence of Classical aesthetic beauty that the likes of Kant and Hegel would concur upon, but adds a new dimension of contemporary and Post-Modern ideals for the viewer to sink their teeth into.

Han’s images of present-day Asian women’s bodies attached to classical western goddess heads combines the Orient with the Occident and opens a dialogue on Orientalism; Feminism; the Sublime; Beauty; authenticity; propriety; and perception.  Each figure, digitally rendered to the perfection of a marble statue appears seamless, virginal, and flawless, and yet the viewer somehow feels as though these women have a secret amongst themselves and each other – laughing at you for not being their ideal of perfection.  “Secretive Graces” pictures the busts of three women whispering to each other: “what do you think of these people passing by?”  “Look at these gallery-goers who are so consumed with the need for consumption,”  “Watch them stare at us in their ignorance of our oppositional gaze,” “The men watch us phallocularly but we have them fooled, don’t we girls?”

New York - New Boutique!

Item New York, a newly opened boutique on 444 Broome St. between Broadway and Mercer in New York’s upscale SoHo neighborhood is the latest store to carry jewelry styles by Marielle Byworth for MARIJOLI.  The cozy store features a minimalistic interior with gunmetal colored walls and dark wood accents and is beautifully stocked with a well-edited selection of one-of-a-kind statement pieces from jewelry to handbags.  The store’s concept is to offer its shoppers that special signature piece that becomes the standout “item” to accentuate their ensemble.  We weren’t surprised Item fell in love with Marijoli's BUMA bracelet with ruby and MATRECK earrings!

Look! MARIJOLI's shapes all around

Sebastien Tellier - Look!...Thanks Ayah

I desagree with the commentary though!...its a question of prerspective I guess...

The Women’s Foundation Gala Dinner 2010
(November 18, 2010)

The Women's Foundation will hold its 2010 gala fundraising dinner on Thursday, November 18. The dinner is being sponsored by Goldman Sachs and Thomson Reuters and will be held at the Renaissance Harbourview Hotel. Mr Lam Woon-kwong, the highly regarded Chair of the EOC, will be the keynote speaker for the event. We will hold a live auction where the audience can bid to support a range of impactful community programmes in support of women’s economic self-reliance, as well as a silent auction and raffle for which we are collecting prizes. The entertainment for the evening will include a CEO boy-band. All proceeds from the event will go entirely towards supporting The Women’s Foundation and our research and community programmes. Last year's dinner raised HK$1.8 million for causes benefiting women and girls in Hong Kong and we hope this year's event will be equally successful - with your support!

BRIDGE FIELD

(left: 120,000円 right 130,000円)

Christina Noble Children's Foundation

I had great fun attending at the Ladies Long Lunch during the 7's  I'm  very happy to have contributed raising such a considerable sum for CNCF. I believe this charity has helped many children achieving their goals and the Foundation is an excellent cause to be supported.
